Our current project sees us transporting plant components weighing up to 120 tons each for a long-standing Austrian Industrial client from Upper Austria to Mexico. The transportation is being securely carried out within the framework of our ILG end-to-end package – from pick-up at the factory to secure delivery to the client.
The cargo will first be brough by barge from the port of Linz to a seaport in Belgium, before being shipped off across the Atlantic on a RoRo-ship (Roll-on / Roll-off ship).
We wished to draw your attention to this particular project, since it not only illustrates the complexity and challenging nature heavy-duty transportation, but also showcases how this type of transportation can so interesting and stimulating.
Loading heavy cargo requires comprehensive Know-how, specialized logistics chains, and must be absolutely fail-safe. Particularly fascinating is how the various challenges, the issue of sustainability, and streamlining are all intertwined. This is our primary focus: with our Head Office in Linz, we take full advantage of our trimodal infrastructure and direct connection to the Danube, to efficiently, securely and sustainably move heavy cargo via the water all over the world.
Inland shipping is ideal when it comes to oversized cargo, but it is also a real “Green Mover”, emitting far less CO₂ in comparison to other modes of transport, allowing large volumes to be transported with a minimal ecological footprint.
Our latest project sees us loading heavy goods onto barges in Linz, which will make their way to Zeebrugge, Belgium via the Rhine-Main-Danube-canal. In close collaboration with our trusted partner the cargo is professionally handled on site – under the strict technical supervision of an experienced Surveyor. After being successfully unloaded in Zeebrugge, the cargo will be transferred to a RoRo-ship which will then sail across the Atlantic towards Mexico.
It can be seen how all processes work in tandem like a well-oiled machine: from precision pre-planning in Linz, to the secure loading in Belgium and distribution to Mexico.
Transporting heavy goods via inland and maritime waterways is no easy feat – it requires specialist Know-how, technical expertise and a dependable network of reliable partners. This is precisely what sets us apart.
Our experienced logistics team plan every step with the utmost precision:
from assessing the technical design and inspecting the condition of the goods at the production site, to providing our customer with comprehensive advice on all matters logistical, all the way through to loading the barge, shipment from Zeebrugge, and final delivery in Mexico.
Together with our partners and operators, as well as technicians and on-site surveyors, we ensure not only smooth execution but also compliance with all quality and safety standards.
Whether complex geometries, sensitive components, or oversized dimensions – each heavy cargo shipment presents its own unique set of challenges. That’s why we offer not only transportation, but comprehensive technical consultation throughout the entire logistics chain. Our specialists analyze what is required in advance, develop tailor made solutions, and see the process all the way through to delivery in Mexico.
Right from the get-go it is essential to carefully consider and verify the requirements of all parties involved along the entire logistics chain. This includes selecting the appropriate handling equipment, determining the number and positioning of lifting and lashing points, as well as overcoming the specific challenges that arise from using a particular mode of transport such as trucks, containers/flats, or roll trailers. The key is to identify all requirements early on, address the questions of transport service providers, and work together to ensure safe and smooth transportation – particularly by sea, but also over land.
There is no reason why green logistics and international heavy-duty transport must exist at odds. By strategically using waterways, we reduce emissions, relieve road networks, and actively contribute to the decarbonization of the logistics industry.
